COUNTER Vauxhall Arches (Vauxhall)

• The Counter now sparkles with mirrored walls
• Though there is nothing 'rapide' about it
• The food was good and I would probably go back a day that I was not pressed for time
• Last week I went for dinner with my boyfriend and his best mate to Counter
• Considering his best mate likes Dishoom and Bone Daddies I was happy to make an exception this time
• I guess Counter is the exception
• The restaurant is divided into two area
• The decoration is modern with booths and marble tables and it also features some original paintings
• T known for its food (bar Michelin starred The Black Rat which is pretty decent)
• To hear that both Hugh Fearnley Twittingstall and Rick Stein were both opening restaurants there
• Counter can be found nestled within one of the numerous arches of Vauxhall with a menu that is self described as contemporary New York
• One look through the menu and the Big Apple's influence is more than evident reading like a roll call of bold
• Solid starters were followed by a pretty decent Counter Burger (with Swiss cheese
• Perfectly pan fried in what tasted like butter then finished off with a rich buerre blanc
• The meal came to a close with an indulgent Mississippi mud pie topped with unnecessary (but so welcomed) pieces of brownie which was a pure delight and a fitting end to an overall great meal
• The atmosphere alone in the dining room and bar is reminiscent of the Big Apple
• Any lingering doubt is put to rest with a menu that reads refined
• Has anyone else noticed that restaurants around major train stations are usually duds
• My completely unoriginal theory is that the guaranteed high footfall drives the rents up and only the big bad chains can afford to open up in those sites
• The seeds of regret start forming and my default position is confirmed once again
• The Drinks is so good and nice
• Brunch is a relaxing occasion where you gather with friends/family to fully enjoy your food and free time
• Last Sunday I had the delight of checking out the brunch offering at COUNTER in Vauxhall with the Zomato ladies
• Tucked under the railway line right by the station entrance COUNTER has a great modern 1960's decoration and was popular for brunch on a Sunday afternoon
• The restaurant is literally located next to Vauxhall overground station
• Once you step in you hear a pianist playing at the front of the restaurant and the interior is very trendy
• New York probably trumps us in this area which is why I'm not surprised with the little hints of the Big Apple's food/restaurant trends hitting up the Big Smoke
• The place caters to a wide range of customers and the vibe is reflected on the strength of their menu offerings
• Weekend brunch is a jazzy affair with live piano sessions to entertain you as you eat
