Clipstone (Fitzrovia)

• Having checked out the menu I was determined to get to Clipstone
• When I headed there with Rhea to eat all the food
• If I go back I'll definitely order lighter dishes as I felt everything we had was very rich and heavy
• We started with fried leeks and sauce gribiche
• The sauce gribiche was good and had a nice tang to it
• Pork and foie gras were topped with mustard seeds and sat on top of buttery grilled bread
• The rillettes were unctuous and very more ish despite their richness
• I arrived for lunch and was promptly and warmly greeted by front of the house and sat down
• Throughout service staff was very friendly and attentive
• Pork and duck pate (6/10) The pate itself had a lean to fat ratio that I was very happy with and the pickled vegetables made for balanced bites and ensured I would not tire of it halfway through
• I understand the desire for presentation but I think the audible crunch of a piece of toast is crucial to a pate
• Easily being the best part of the dish
• Onion (2/10) There was simply too of the walnut butter on the plate which in moderation would have been tasty
• The walnut was present and welcome in the butter while the feint smokiness added an initial point of interest
• If the onions are sweeter or were pickled it would certainly help
• On paper the food is very appealing here but it suffers from some recurring flaws
• I came away from this meal feeling that this was an under realised version of its sister and nothing more
