City Spice (Brick Lane)

• London's Brick Lane is the epicentre of curry world
• Lined with restaurants serving up some of the best Indian cuisine in the city
• We were intrigued by the fact City Spice was an award winning restaurant
• Supposedly one of the best on Brick Lane
• The tables were quite close together so it did feel a little cosy when more people showed up
• Our food did take a fair while to come out it was almost at the point where it had been TOO long when it arrived
• It was pretty obvious that the reason it took longer than expected was down to a real dedication to cooking great quality curry from scratch
• The cheese was very mature and there was a LOT of it on the naan
• Resulted in it being very overpowering with my light tasting curry
• Another BIG DEAL for me when I'm off to an Indian is a good portion of mattar paneer affectionately referred to by us as 'cheesy peas'
• The portion sizes overall were nice and generous
• The sauces offered with the pappadums had the best taste and selection of any Indian I've been to
• I'm not convinced that City Spice is my favourite of Brick Lane's offerings yet
• Made us wait for 1hour 2o mins outside then another 1hour for food and guess what food was tasteless and the lamb tikka was tough and soo chewy
• They say they are rated as 5star in TripAdvisor
• The food took soo long to come out and after it did it looked dry with lack of sauce
• The waiters seemed busy with their phones and the toilets were in a mess
• They charge 15% service charge to what i think was a nightmare service
• The service was a mess and the food was too spicy and too oily
• Two of the waiters were busy chit chatting and shouting
• The place was over cramped and all the tables were together so we didn't feel comfortable sitting right close to other people
• The food came out cold and rice were very sticky
• I thought i was in some other country
• The food itself was disgusting
• Felt like the curry was full of oil
• The place was soo cramped and the heat was over 40degrees inside
• All the tables are joint together
• We were promised a 15 pound set meal and left with a 25 pound set meal and a hefty service charge
• Value it is filling and tasty because of salt and oil but definitely not if you are craving good Indian food
• We went here with a group of 20
• The food took 2hours to come and when it did it was cold and the meat was hard to chew
• None the less they added 18% service charge to our bill which was ridiculous
• All i tasted was powder and oily stuff
• Lastly the prices were ridiculous with 12.5% service charge added
• Saw a RAT running around while i was having my food
• Secondly while me and my partner were having our food we saw a RAT running around
• When i asked the guy in charge to change it he refused to change it and he was swearing at us when he turned towards his back
• The service was terrifying and the food came out cold
• The starters we had was burnt and the main courses portion sizes were so little
