It helps if the bit of London you're wandering around is disarmingly beautiful
-
The skill and attention to detail displayed in the food at the Bull and Last is quite something to behold
-
Presented in a cream stoneware bowl and studded with drops of truffle oil
-
Came partnered with a little mound of sweet deep fried shallots
-
Trying each element in turn to discover that nearly each was as good as the last
-
Crunchy and entirely greaseless chipirones (deep fried baby squid) topped with a very good aioli
-
Paired with a chocolate mousse dessert that would compare very well to the Louis XV a like from Gauthier/Tartufo was a lovely blackberry ice cream
-
The food and service is clearly worth the extra outlay and then some
-
Refined place that does everything with charm and flair
-
It is the pub everyone in London wants but only the residents of Highgate are lucky enough to call it their local
-
A good roast beef is all about exact timings
-
So since moving to London I have been on a one woman quest to find the best roast beef in the city
-
Just off the Heath it is the perfect addition to a relaxing Sunday afternoon
-
The pub itself is traditional old man y
-
The clientele is anything but
-
The only drawback is that you have to book well in advance to secure a table or chance it a little later (after 3pm) to get a seat at the bar
-
We were lucky in that after two minutes at the bar we were kindly offered a table to ourselves in the corner
-
I think it had been reserved but the diners were a no show (idiots)
-
The main reason why I like The Bull and Last so much is that they pay as much attention to the trimmings as they do to the beef
-
I think a roast is about more than just the meat
-
The potatoes were crisp on the outside
-
The Yorkshire pudding was puffed up and crunchy
-
Roasted parsnips and carrots and onions) were lightly cooked
-
We finished up with two puddings to share &ndash
-
Chocolate mousse with peanut ice cream and blueberry cheesecake sundae
-
Afterwards we decided to walk it off with a trip up to Kenwood House
-
20 for the beef it is one of the more expensive roasts in London
-
The danger with a strong reputation is raised expectations
-
We ordered the Pork RIllons and a Deep Fried Pork Cheek with watermelon** to share
-
When it finally arrived amply warm (we sent it back to the kitchen twice as the pork was cold when it arrived)
-
Our favourite dish was an impressive Onglet Steak cooked medium rare
-
Thick cut chips that I was still eating hours after the night was over
-
A not so impressive Fish Board that was rich in variety but not in flavour
-
The Chipirones were outshone by my sister's homemade version this one had a little too much batter and not enough squid
-
I was disappointed with the demographic of the plate it was dominated by the Fennel and Soda Bread and Iceberg Lettuce
-
The service was very attentive even if a little stressed
-
If you like sweet beer (or are a cider drinker and want to try something new)
-
I should really return for something other than Sunday lunch at some point as by all accounts their other food is excellent too
-
T change much but is absolutely worth the detour
-
You can still get a butcher platter to share with homemade rillettes and terrine for £
-
Chef Ollie Pudney worked with Richard Corrigan before moving here
-
The odd name is supposedly due to &ldquo
-
A fairy bare room with rustic tables and a menagerie of stuffed animal heads on the walls
-
S lighting is very murky indeed
-
Noise levels are reasonable
-
I was impressed with wild mushroom and truffle arancini (£
-
The crisp outside containing a rich mix of mushrooms and rice scented with truffle (easily 14/20)
-
9) had good pasta mixed with brown crab meat
-
15) tonight was less enjoyable than I have eaten here on previous visits
-
The batter was a little clunky
-
Though the pea puree on the side was very good and chips were fine (12/20)
-
25) was cooked pink and came with celeriac puree
-
I had lamb rump with artichoke puré
-
We shared a dark chocolate mousse with pop corn ice cream for dessert
-
Unsurprisingly I was pretty full when I left
-
14) came with some of the best chips I&rsquo
-
Salty and filled with piping hot fluffy potato
-
T the biggest catch and even though the batter was good and free from the chip shop grease
-
I hate it when mushy peas are served in stupid little pots
-
Jeruselam artichoke soup delicious rich and warming soup goes well with the cheesy croquette
-
Fried and cured mixture was delightful
-
A nice spacious atmospheric pub at Tufnell Park serving good fare with a great selection of drinks and attentive staff
-
Pictured was the veg selection of Gnocchi with wild mushrooms Delicious
