Boys Cafe (Kensal Green)

• Was recommended by my housemate and was very impressed
• Every time I visit this restaurant I am asked how spicy I would like the dish and my reply is always the same 7/10
• This evening I ordered the same dish and the food took over 40 minutes to arrive at our table because the restaurant was busy preparing takeaway dishes
• When my dish arrived it was incredibly spicy a 9/10 and was inedible
• I complained explaining that I was loyal customer and that I would like a milder dish
• Having visited them every week for the last year I was disgusted at how they could treat a loyal customer this way
• I would normally have also said that longevity is a very positive sign
• Sadly on this occasion I was to be proved wrong
• A very warm welcome was a nice start
• Who had last been to Boy's cafe over a decade ago (and may I say enjoyed it thoroughly) suggested we start with the mixed platter
• I followed the starter with a Thai beef salad and my friend chose the yellow chicken and peanut curry and rice
• The chicken was succulent and very satisfying when dunked into the peanut sauce
• Two enormous hunks of bread with a wafer thin coating of prawns and sesame seeds just didn't do it for me and the fish cakes were just a horrible
• My 'sirloin' steak was chewy and was just full of gristle
• The sauce was thick and so salty it was actually quite unpleasant
• The steamed rice was also perfectly cooked and throughout the lunch our waiter was charm itself
