The Bountiful Cow (Holborn)

• The bounty burger is excellent value and a particular favourite and you really can't go too far wrong washing it all down with a side of chips and some hearty red
• Its one of the best steaks i have ever eaten
• The Bountiful Cow is neatly tucked into a lane near Holborn tube station
• Their club sandwich is easily the best in London
• The huge bounty burger that they serve is a meal in itself and will keep you full all day
• End with the creme brulee or my favourite pistachio icecream with raspberry coulis
• The service is friendly and quick
• Mild melted cheese merges seamlessly with the beef patty
• Slightly less harmonious are the chopped onions (too much of them and massively overpowering)
• The inexplicable curl of iceburg lettuce (causing stability issues with everything sliding around)
• The whole experience is finished off with a generic 'burger sauce' which adds a creamy acidity into the mix
• The meat in this burger is a real throwback to the 'gourmet' burgers of old lean
• Ground beef mixed with herbs I know
• So the texture is unadulterated
• Firstly the beef is un aged so the flavour profile is sharp and tinny like supermarket steak rather than the mellow beefiness of aged meat
• Then there is no discernible crust formed on the outside of the patty as it's been char grilled
• This also means that where the meat has come into contact with the hot metal it is charred and acrid
• The reality is a big fat Bun Fail
• Both times the steak was cooked as I had requested
