  • The restaurant is a multi storey affair

  • The first floor dining room was simple but quite cosy

  • A starter of crab and avocado with sorrel lacked much flavour

  • The vegetables were OK but the mackerel did not appear to be very fresh given its lack of flavour

  • The soused element was overly sour (10/20)

  • Chips were not the best I have tried but were pleasant enough (13/20)

  • Goosnargh spring chicken was served with girolles and wild garlic

  • While the mushrooms were a bit limp

  • The food service was perfectly competent

  • A little later what I presume was the wine waiter appeared and said &ldquo

  • Then came back with a completely different bottle of wine again

  • The cooking was inconsistent

  • Any restaurant where the bought in bread is the best item is just not trying hard enough

  • The terrace is lovely on a warm evening

  • The private dining room is special too

  • I loved the mid century modern elements with a splash of quirky accouterments

  • Nibbles such as crispy monkfish cheeks with spiced tartar sauce really do it for as

  • Same can be said for Cornish crab with pearl barley

  • The fellows are importing some fine quaffs indeed

  • Bird of Smithfield is located at 26 Smithfield Street

  • I am obsessed with good chairs &mdash

  • It was a bit on the later side but the restaurant website and all the Internet AND the sign out front assured me that the bar was open ALL DAY LONG

  • Yes Bird of Smithfield is one of those

  • Alan Bird is the head chef/owner here (clue is in the name) and comes from a previous position as former executive chef at The Ivy

  • From the outside Bird of Smithfield is quite unassuming

  • It even comes with its own roof terrace which overlooks Smithfield Market

  • Some of the rooms here are perhaps a little plain and could do with a lick of fresh paint but the dining room upstairs is a lovely hidden retreat

  • Nowadays Smithfield is much more than a market and has become a hub for bars

  • Since my days of clubbing at Fabric are behind me &ndash

  • At the minute is dedicated to Aperol Spritz (which is fine by me

  • ) The terrace is pretty small with limited seating so try and get there early if you can

  • The homeliness of the townhouse was very appealing

  • The interior is really tastefully designed and comfortable
