  • A new meat with beer to match type of setup that has just opened in Kentish Town but plans fell through

  • S one of the new batch of London restaurants who are doing an American style menu with an emphasis on craft beer and how well they can be matched together

  • The other on our radar is Wahleeah and they&rsquo

  • Not being familiar with London eateries

  • We couldn't really go wrong with steak and beer

  • The choice was made even more attractive by the price

  • Decked with old wooden school chairs which are definitely chosen for the form over their function

  • Seeing Harviestoun on offer was a pleasant surprise

  • I personally would argue there are far better Scottish breweries

  • Whilst I went for a steak bun with shallot rings and bearnaise

  • There was a little confusion as to whether the food that initially arrived at the table was mine or not

  • After a flying visit back to the kitchen it was ascertained that it was

  • The texture was appreciated with a slightly warm salad offering no crunch

  • We were all a little taken aback when the 375ml bottle arrived with three glasses

  • Our welcome was cold if not non existent

  • Even the mix up with my meal was dealt with uncomfortably by someone who appeared to be a member of the management not just your run of the mill front of house

  • I went for dinner with some friends on a Thursday evening and we turned up at 8pm and the place was full

  • My friend Tiva knew of a deal to get us free beers with every meal over £

  • So we all decided to try the chateaux steak paired with the amber ale

  • The broccoli was also charred slightly

  • I loved the truffle Bearnaise sauce and whilst the chimichurri is traditional Argentine accompaniment for steak

  • The herb and garlic sauce was a little overpowering and it definitely lingers

  • They get their steak from Swaledale in Yorkshire and it was one of the best steaks I've had in a while

  • So a return visit is definitely in order

  • Only the acoustics sort of suck with all the hard finishes such as exposed brick

  • They don't play music but when the crowd is raucous it gets very loud

  • Some items were excellent but others just mediocre

  • I had a rare flatiron with truffle hollandaise and charred broccoli

  • Steak was good and cleverly sliced thin against the grain which is a good treatment for a cut that is flavourful but not terribly tender

  • None of the butteriness or yolkiness I associate with hollandaise sauce

  • Truffle taste was too subtle for me to notice either

  • Charred broccoli was good and still green and crunchy

  • It came topped with a very punchy chimchurri which I ended up smearing on my steak

  • The thin fries were nothing special

  • The chocolate sorbet was absolutely stunning

  • My companion was dubious about not having cream with an iced chocolate dessert but was totally won over

  • The other scoop of pistachio ice cream with lemon and almond read great on the menu was nothing special
