Walls decorated with coloured tiles
-
As it if had been thickened with corn flour
-
So the result was bland and disappointing (8/20)
-
Bulked out with tomato and cucumber
-
The spices were very restrained
-
13.95) was made using British pork and was quite good
-
A key difference is that the version at Assado lacked sufficient vinegar punch
-
11.75) had a potato bhaji with a lightly spiced sauce
-
A plain naan was pleasant enough
-
The best dish of the meal was a dessert of custard tart (£
-
Had custard with a hint of vanilla and nice pastry (13/20)
-
A brand which is available in different levels of quality
-
Judging from the result here I assume this was a low end one
-
If you drank wine then a typical bill with three courses and coffee plus tip would come to around £
-
Though the custard tart was genuinely good
-
They also have a Deli Counter with a wide choice of delicatessen specialties
-
Goan and Brazilian cuisine combined with flavours Indian
-
There is also a choice of bread with various fillings such as Chicken Peri Peri a&rsquo
-
The main courses are Goa inspired and include Goan Prawn Curry and Rice and Goan Okra and Courgette Curry and Rice
-
Additionally there is also the option to order from the Rotisserie or Stone Oven sections of the menu
-
Both of which were spiced well
-
My main course I ordered a Goan stlye vegetable coconut curry served with steamed rice
-
The portion was small and seemed to be served as a deconstructed curry
-
That Assado is trying to do too much
-
Colourful and cool with Portuguese style tiles
-
Hear the chef talk with charisma and passion about Goan and Portuguese food influences and tell us stories about the origin of pastel de natas
-
Bombay born Cyrus Todiwala is the Chef Patron of Cafe Spice Namaste
-
He was also awarded the Craft Guild of Chefs' Special Award and is a Fellow of the Academy of Culinary Arts and the Master Chefs of Great Britain
-
So a few weeks after the opening I was there for a Sunday lunch with my husband
-
After my second visit I got the impression that Assado relies mostly on pre theatre diners (the Old Vic is just around the corner) and the weekday food on the go
-
The deli counter plays a key role in the restaurant's interior design and the food menu is clearly adapted to take away needs
-
Pulled Pork Assado is indeed their lead dish
-
It was also the one I was the least impressed by
-
The Goan Prawn curry on the other hand was the highlight of our meal
-
The menu starts with a choice of three Goan breads and four fillings to match together
-
It was filled with Pulled Pork Assado
-
A very slow cooked shoulder or loin of pork marinated with crushed coriander
-
The spices didn't come through and were overpowered by the coleslaw
-
Fresh coconut filled in puff pastry and baked) were recommended by our waitress and were absolutely delicious
-
Mussels and palourde clams were marinated in tangy tomato
-
Was exquisite but I didn't like the choice of serving it with white bread
-
The Breast of Chicken Caldeen simmered in a light mild creamy coconut curry and served with steamed rice was tasty
-
The spicy Goan Prawn Curry served with Arroz Vermilho (organic red rice) was our favourite meal of the day
-
One of Assado's most interesting features is the wood fired stone oven
-
In which Indian Naan bread is freshly baked every day
-
The naan is baked with different toppings (chilli cheese and garlic
-
You can't go wrong with cheesy bread and these naans are indeed very tasty
-
We finished our lunch with two desserts
-
The Bebinca cake (a moist Goan layered cake of coconut milk and ghee) served with coconut ice cream which I really enjoyed
-
The Pastel de Natas which took twenty minutes to be served as at Assado they are freshly baked on order
-
The pastry was light and flaky and the custard cream was thick with a hint of vanilla
-
The dish comes with two big sized tarts
-
My husband in particular loved the fish dishes which are more typical of Goan cuisine
-
I didn't fall in love with the concept and the menu
-
Overall I am not sure if the Indo Portuguese fusion concept works and whom it is supposed to please
-
A new Goan restaurant with Portugese and Brazilian influences in Waterloo
-
Surprisingly given how on the tourist trail Goa is and how much Britain has embraced Indian food
-
It was a casual style eatery with booths and wooden tables
-
The beef croquettes and prawn rissole were nice enough
-
S hard to go wrong with things that are deep fried although I would prefer more assertive spicing in the beef croquettes
-
Flavours should be dancing across your tongue and there was no dancing happening on mine
-
Shredded beetroot in puff pastry is not much to write home about
-
Fish curry is the staple dish of Goa
-
The fish curry that we were served was mild
-
It was pleasant enough but bore no resemblance to the fish curry that is served in Goa
-
The garlic rice was probably the tastiest dish on the table
-
The dessert was a selection including mango and coconut cheesecake that had an oddly soapy flavour almost like perfumed handwash
-
The best one was the pastel de nata
-
A custard tart which was thermo nuclearly hot as if it had been nuked in the microwave
-
Who informed us that that the spicing in the curries had been toned down to suit their international clientele (the restaurant is attached to a Hampton by Hilton hotel)
-
Again Abigail explained that the kitchen was under a lot of pressure as many large tables had arrived at once and the head chef was away
-
The ambiance is really nice with a very warm and soothing decor
-
Both were well prepared with a good taste and portion was quite large
-
We planned to meet up with my sister in law
-
T book on a Friday night and the queues are insane &ndash
-
I Decided to try Assado with a group of Goan friends one weekend
-
The purpose of visiting was unfulfilled
-
The food was quite terrible (the Goans were not pleased with the lamb curry) and my soup arrived lukewarm although I had specifically asked for it to be extra hot
-
Great place cozy and calm ambiance staff is friendly and professional and the food is good nice taste i recommend the burgers and the sweet potato fries
