Veritas (Stockbridge)

• Very sadly I'm having to add to this review as I went to Veritas last night and the experience was not the same as the first time I went
• Her friend had penne pasta with tomato sauce and I had prawns
• The pasta on the ravioli was far too thick
• The penne pasta was very ordinary and my prawns were rubbery
• The warm welcome to this restaurant begins even before you walk through the door the steps are decorated with candles and hurricane lamps
• We had a specially prepared tasting menu with fried sage leaves
• Polenta crostini with liver and bruschetta with hot salami paste as a starter
• The meaty texture and rich flavour of the liver was enhanced by the taste and consistency of the the polenta
• The next course was gorgonzola focaccia
• The highlights of the fish course(s) for me were the octopus soup small chunks of meaty
• The octopus and potato salad the subtle flavour and firm texture of the octopus was sensational
• The spaghetti in tomato sauce was definitely my favourite dish in the pasta course
• The sauce is prepared according to a recipe from around 1800 and the result was a delicate
• The ravioli with Italian sausage and aubergine was a meaty parcel wrapped with delicate pasta
• The robust flavours of rosemary in the chianti cooked risotto cooked were a little overpowering for my palate
• The main course was veal with spek and parmigiano
• My only slight criticism would be that the aubergine was too spicy for me and this is definitely my problem not that of the dish I simply can't eat remotely spicy food
• We were soon delighted to discover that the smoke was part of the flavouring for a homemade ice cream served with a dish of tiramisu
• The ice cream was rich and the sumptuous texture leant itself well to the warm and comforting smoke flavour
• The wines served with the meal ranged from a fruity aromatic white to a light sparkling red and were a well balanced a complement to the courses served
• The service was on top form and the food was so full of flavour with rich herbs and spices
• The desert was a cigaret flavoured ice cream
• I felt even as a part time smoker it was a little strong and hits the back of you're throat
• The decor and atmosphere was extremely relaxing
• It's not hard to see why Veritas was allocated the 'Date Night' collection on this website
• This romantic venue is hidden just below street level in a Stockbridge basement unit
• Juicy olives were taken care of
• Kyle had the bruschetta for 2 to start (they were only little pieces so was actually fine for one hungry boy)
• My prawns were juicy and served with a nice salad
• A had a nice saltiness and was served with a delicious relish
• I really liked the atmosphere and interior design especially the lights (which are always a talking point apparently)
• Especially as they are such a companionable lot
• I was relieved to make it into a taxi with all my kept belongings
• My next favorite part of the meal was octopus soup
• A beautiful broth with perfectly cooked everything hanging lovingly within
• Razor clams were one I had been especially wanting to try
• Given that they are so beloved by many fine chefs
• In addition to this seafood medley was soft shell crab
• All of which were excellently done
• I know there was a delicious croquette and some brocolli
• A delightful tiramisu was accompanied by a stonkingly good ice cream
• I should also note that each section of the meal was served with a matching wine
• All of which were expertly chosen
• One evening that we were heading to a party in Stockbridge
• Finding out later that it was right next to where we were heading how convenient
• Right away as we walked in it felt like we were in Italy and it's rare nowadays that Italian restaurants make you feel that way
• We were greeted promptly and the service was absolutely impeccable
• We were then offered some little bites to start with (some olives and quinoa salad)
• Said was by far the best of the evening) and the man had some bean/sausage stew
• The main meal we both went for pasta I had some cheese ravioli and he had some penne with meat (which we can't remember exactly now)
• Another thing I loved was that while we ordered I asked for a wine recommendation and the wine that came was absolutely perfectly suited for my meal
• I came here with a group of 6
• We had an Italian sausage and bean stew which I normally wouldn't order but it was really tasty so I was happy I tried it
• We also had a roast duck salad which was very nice and fresh
• I tried potato pizza with red onions which I've never had before and I wouldn't say I would have it again
• I also tried the ravioli and carbonara and I must say the pasta was one of the best one I've tried in my life
