  • Last Sunday evening we rounded off the weekend in style with a trip to The Mumbai Mansion on Morrison Street

  • Living up to that standard is no easy task

  • Unless of course you are the team behind Mithas

  • The idea behind The Mumbai Mansion is similar to Mithas

  • To change the way Indian cooking is perceived and offer quality modern Indian cuisine

  • The menu at The Mumbai Mansion is not your standard Indian fare

  • They are still cooked with the same range of spices and sauces which provides a unique take on the dish

  • I ended up going for the Scallops and Mussels to start which was served with a Nilghiri sauce

  • The scallops were substantial and cooked perfectly as were the mussels

  • The Nilghiri sauce was light and tasty and went very well with the scallops and mussels

  • It was also served with a garlic flatbread which was perfect for soaking up the sauce

  • The Venison again was cooked really well

  • Great texture and taste along with the honey and pineapple marinade

  • The main course I was torn between the lamb and the monkfish however Merwyn highly recommended the whole leg of lamb so I went with that

  • It was served already cut from the bone but was placed back around the bone for serving

  • The lamb is cooked in the tandoor and came with a tomato and onion based sauce

  • The butter chicken whilst not quite on a par with the lamb was also very tasty

  • A lovely creamy sauce with well cooked chicken and again a good sized portion

  • The saffron pilau rice was nice and light and not too overpowering and the tandoori roti light and tasty

  • I went for the Callebaut Hot Chocolate Mousse with fresh orange and ginger ice cream and Miss Edinburger went for the Sticky Toffee Pudding with toffee sauce

  • T really something we would usually do in an Indian Restaurant so the dessert menu on offer was just another bonus

  • The chocolate mouse was very rich (just how i like my desserts) and the fresh tangy taste of the orange with the ginger ice cream went perfectly

  • The sticky toffee pudding was also very tasty and moist just as a sticky toffee pudding should be

  • The voucher deal was for the business lunch plus some ice cream

  • I also ordered a mango lassi as it was a sunny day and thought it would match my mood

  • The chap that runs the place was the having none of that

  • Turns out seafood is a speciality of the place and it's really the thing to eat here

  • The only downside is that you can't be lazy when ordering

  • Ll find that the menu is completely different now that it has the Mithas touch (did you see what I did there

  • The full belly induced yawns are usually kicking in just as the main course arrives

  • It had been a long and tiring day so I was in need of a good feed and a comparatively early night so I headed to Mumbai Mansion

  • This was far from my first visit since the place changed hands and moved in a different direction in 2015 and I was a little surprised to note that I hadn&rsquo

  • Mumbai mansion is definitely the best indian restaurant in Edinburgh

  • Each of the items was spot on just the right amount of spices without being oily

  • The tarka dal was as good as it gets

  • Everything else we ordered was a waste of money

  • The paneer was hard and not at all cooked

  • The ambiance was supposed to show the rich heritage of India and I was surprised to see that the map of India itself was made incorrect
