The Lioness of Leith (Leith)

• With our final sip of wine and 100th chew of the disappointing piece of beef we decided to begin our blog by hunting for the best roast dinner Edinburgh had to offer
• When we asked if this would be an obscene amount of food for two we were told it would depend how hungry we were
• I needed to replenish my chicken reserves and there was no way a half chicken could satisfy these needs
• The side dishes were where restraint had to be placed
• The skin on this badboy was ridiculously good
• You hear folk (myself included) raving on about the Colonel's addictive skin but this was a whole new level
• Peeling back this crispy skin was like unwrapping a really juicy Christmas present
• What was uncovered was the most succulent chicken ever to grace our gravy
• The portion sizes were smaller than expected especially considering each side was the same price
• To be fair these were amongst the best yorkies I'd had in a restaurant in Edinburgh
• The garlic cloves were then ejected and smushed on our plates to enjoy with the final crispy potatoes
• So looking back on this meal we'd say the chicken is really good value
• This was hands down the best roast we've had in Edinburgh and will be moving to the hall of fame shortly after this post goes live
• Our 1/2 chicken (minus a few bites) was then wrapped in foil and placed in a brown paper bag for us to enjoy later
• We commended each others restraint and took a stroll home safe in the knowledge that sandwiches were going to be fantastic
• Lovely place to grab a drink and the prices are quite cheap
• I am a massive prawn fan and the prawns at the lioness were some of the best I've had
• I only wish there was more on the plate
• The decor in The Lioness of Leith (Leith) is pretty cool as well quite retro which made it feel warm and cosy with its brick walls and wooden tables with candle holders made out of alcohol bottles
• The decor is pretty cool with some amazing artwork on the wall next to the bar and really comfy bar furniture throughout the bar
• I would definitely recommend Sunshine Lollipops cocktail which is delicious and has a bit of a kick without overpowering
• Also each week they do a cocktail of the week which normally is pretty tasty
• Food wise if your after something light try the bread and hummus or the chicken tempura with sweet chilli sauce
• M not normally a fan of vegetarian food but this is delicious)
• After being informed by the lovely barmaid with a Geordie accent that weeknights = £
• The pork ribs were juicy and substantial
• The clapshot was a first for me and a nice alternative to mash
• If the rest of the menu is of the same consistently high standard then it would just be rude not to dine here more frequently
• The chicken roast was extremely perfect in taste and presentation
• The staff and service was very good in order to ensure customer&rsquo
• I love the decor and chilled atmosphere the food is a perfect mix of Gastropub and brasserie
• This would have been fine as we are generally very laid back and don't want to cause a scene

• I cannot stress how rude these people were and to be honest the food was sub par too
• It's such a shame a place of such low standard is in the most beautiful city I know

• My boyfriend and friends were treated aggressively and abysmally by the bar person who advised he was the manager
• Within minutes our existing drinks were snatched from the table
• We we informed the police were being called
• That staff had taken photos of us and the 'incident' was being recorded by CCTV
• I wished it was as it would show people enjoying a meal
• I felt verbally and physically threatened by the manager and all because my friend reported an issue with a dirty toilet
• I walk past the bar on my way home from work and felt nervous to do so this week as the manager is often outside having a cigarette
• Over the years I've done lots of bar work and dealt with the more unpleasant cleaning issues that do occur I never treated customers like this who had altered me to an issue with toilets
