The Basement (New Town)

• I knew that it was getting refurbished and therefore was looking forward to see how it had changed
• I had the tacos and my dad had the soup to start which were both disappointing
• Particularly the tacos as they were tiny and had little taste
• The main dishes were better however
• The pork stew was far too small for the price and was served on its own
• Jane opened with the veggie taco
• Then followed with their chilli
• Main courses were somewhat similar
• My fish tacos were generously stocked
• We were impressed with the Basement Bar&rsquo
• S a place that will provide you with a decent feed
• Another one of those places where my visit was all too short though perhaps for the best as it would be very easy to drink career destroying amounts of tequila in this delightful den
• Even coaxing my comrade who's never had the best experiences with tequila into enjoying the sassy spirit
• You're upside down half way up a tree three days later with no clothes on and a hazy recollection of the intervening hours
• The Basement Bar is a bit of an Edinburgh institution
• We talked about our best memories from the bar
• Walking in to the new Basement was a refreshing change
• D be able to tell you about the cocktails but I was there on a school night
• So all I can tell you is that I want to go back because I&rsquo
• The table side spectacle is wonderful and at the Basement
• I want the avocado to shine) and is highly entertaining
• The end result was as charming as the service
• The Chilli Negra was hot and rich
• On the table was a bottle of luminescent green jalapeno hot sauce
• Pulled pork and chorizo with beans and pickled onion &ndash
• The mushrooms were portabellos which are often somewhat wet
• These slices were cooked to perfection so they were firm and had really good flavour
• Was very nearly too full for dessert but managed to squeeze in charred pineapple with chilli syrup and cinnamon ice cream
• Sweet at first bite and then with a growing heat
• The new decor is fun and comfortable and matches the food and cocktail menus
• The staff helped us find tables and were very attentive
• They helped with recommendations from the menu
• I would advise booking a table if there is a large group of people
• It's a very trendy bar and restaurant with live music on Sundays
• Went here for my Birthday and was delighted with food
• Had guacamole made at our table (which was amazing) and enchilada
• Last Thursday saw me wining and dining (when I say wining I mean cocktailing but that is irrelevant really) at The Basement
• I had been to The Basement a few times previously for lunch but it was never particularly busy or atmosphere
• We decided to sway from what we would normally choose and opted for a pulled pork Buritto and a chicken enchilada with green rice
• We also had a cheeky side of sweet potato fries which were heaven in a little pot
• The food was delicious as was the atmosphere friendly and there was a buzz about the place
• The food is fantastic with a great selection of authentic Mexican dishes
• The waitstaff are friendly and more than happy to help out with dietary accommodations and there's plenty choice for vegans and gluten free dining
• Just a quick update to say I tried their food and would have no qualms recommending their Mexican themed food to pair with the great cocktails on offer
• The chicken wings and nachos are great sharing platters
• I've been here twice in the space of a couple of months and I've been very pleased with my food on both occasions
• The atmosphere is brilliant and I could happily sit here and just have drinks
• Means that you can have a full meal or just a nibble with your margarita
• The second time we visited it was with friends and we chose to share a selection of small plates
• The Basement is exactly what Edinburgh's Mexican food scene needs because of it's mixture of full meals and street food
• El Cartel sprung to mind but it was a Saturday night and with a no reservation policy
• The basement is a go to destination for any kind of occasion
• The prices are slightly costly but it's worth the atmosphere it offers
• The food is really good and there are plenty of cocktails
• This well established bar and restaurant is looking fresher than previous visits
