The restaurant was frequented by the likes of Oscar Wilde
-
It seems just the place that Oscar Wilde would have socialised with George Bernard Shaw and other contemporaries over some iced champagne
-
The Friday night menu is short and sweet
-
We started off with a Pink Panther
-
A slightly sharp with a little sweetness mix of Dictador Colombian gin and lemon grass syrup
-
Its delicate taste was slightly overpowered by the chorizo
-
At the bottom was a chicken and potato tagine
-
The chicken was a little dry
-
Other accompanying dishes were a cheese plate and fresh olive bread
-
A warm crusty loaf that was perfectly doughy
-
A very talented pianist in drag played some of our favourite jazz classics making sure we were well entertained
-
Accompanied by a low voiced lady with a Marge Simpson hair do
-
Over the course of the evening we were entertained by Lady Carole
-
A stripping piano player with sequinned nipple tassles
-
Oscar Wilde was accused of sodomy&hellip

The Hotel Cafe Royal was an establishment that I kept thinking I should visit for afternoon tea but then kept pushing aside
-
I hadn't heard very good things but as they say you should always make your own opinion so here are my thoughts on their gluten free afternoon tea
-
They were extremely cute and the variety on offer was incredible
-
The gluten free scones were tasty and passé
-
D my scone test but my only compliant was that they were very stingy on the jam front
-
Once again the gluten free pastries were visually appealing and included an absinthe macaroon which is to do with the history of the hotel
-
A soft black China tea with sweet Madagascan vanilla pod and pretty cornflowers both from the Exclusive Blends selection
-
The amuse bouche was a 'Low Sidecar Muffin'
-
Creamy centre a great start to what was yet to come
-
Starting from the top was the wild boar crackling
-
On the second tier was the Mary Rose prawn cocktail
-
The final tier were a couple of sandwiches London Cure smoked salmon and quail's egg
-
Last but not least was a beautiful and vibrant tray of sweet pastries
-
My favourite was probably the cute little seasonal flower pot and the petite choux buns
-
It's interesting to note that high tea was traditionally associated with the middle and lower class as it represented their evening meal or dinner
-
Will leave you with a list which is both shockingly overwhelming and bewildering
-
Where do you start even coming up with a shortlist
-
Hotel Cafe Royal is quietly going about its business serving one of the tastiest afternoon teas I've had in recent memory
-
You're well placed to watch the day past you by relaxing in the beautifully classical Oscar Wilde lounge furnished with stunning decor
-
What stood out for me however was the service we received which was superb
-
Excellent location just off Regent Street and the interiors make for a great ambience but food and service or courtesy were not upto par for the price
-
The variety in the drinks menu and desert were good if thats what you are looking for otherwise did not see anything special
-
The afternoon tea here is quite the experience
-
The interiors are something to gawk at
-
The Wellington is drool worthy
-
The scones were fresh and delicious being the glutton I am
-
I would have preferred a larger helping of cream and jam and the delicate pastries and inventive desserts were a) beautifully presented b) perfectly flavoured and c) piled high
-
The chairs and table were veeeerry low to the ground which resulted in sore knees by the end of it
-
The tea list was extensive and we were able to order more the one type of tea if we fancied
-
The let down was the service started off amazing but we seemed to keep being forgotten after we were served sandwiches
-
Oscar Wilde Bar - Hotel Café Royal (Soho) was on my list to visit
-
Service was second to none and the range if teas were mind boggling
-
The finger sandwiches themselves were incredibly delicate and flavorful and the combinations were not your run of the mill combos
-
We were so stuffed by the end of the session and had such a fantastic time with excellent service
-
With a candle and chocolate was brought out for me which was a lovely touch
-
Not forgetting that the actual room and atmosphere is breathtaking
