Cubana (Waterloo)

• Cubana (Waterloo) is situated a minute's walk from Waterloo station
• The portions were not too large and an average main dish cost around £
• The place is usually crowded and sometimes it is hard to even get a table
• I think it is definitely worth a try
• Unfortunately the bit that was hired out was very small and slightly pokey
• The drinks were very nice though
• Albeit a bit expensive with a jug of it amounting to £
• The drinks and the upstairs section were very nice and lively
• The music and the atmosphere as I say was very nice and it is located relatively near the station in a great area
• A colada (love it here) and share platters of mezze the falafel platter is exceptional
• This whole area is filled with cocktail drinkers enjoying the sunshine
• The interior is decked out completely in theme
• The tables are brightly coloured and the whole effect is buzzing
• It's happy hour when we arrive but by the time we are shown to our table (reservations are a must here btw) it's 7pm so the 2 for 1 deal is off
• The crowds are clearly here for happy hour and they're starting to depart but the restaurant portion remains busy and so we order ourselves a mojito jug to begin our evening
• We start off with some plantain chips unfortunately these are soggy
• The signature dish at Cubana is the Ropa Vieja a traditional cuban shredded beef dish served with black beans and rice
• With the menu claiming that my prawns are marinated in ginger
• Husband has the tuna fishcakes which are highly rated
• Crisp on the outside with a soft interior
• The coconut mousse is a bit grainy which I'm not a fan of
• The chocolate mousse is pretty standard and the white chocolate shavings on top lend an additional richness
• The service is distracted here
• Dropping by Cubana will be a rewarding experience if you are into Latin culture and you can start shaking along with friends with a smile on your face
• The place is intro fresh ingredients with the cocktails
• You can a grab a handful of strawberries and lime while you are on the queue ( kidding
• Note that the music is not just some mainstream popsicle Latin music but they try to get you in the vide of Cuba
• Just draft along with the music and make sure that another pitcher of mojito is coming
• The Cubana is just 4 min away from Waterloo Tube station
• The interior is quite original and authentic
• Almost every night there is a live band which you can enjoy listening or join the others on the dance floor
• I have been there a few times but only for drinks and Cuban rhythms and my favourite coctail is definitely the strawberry daiquiry
• I had a cuban coffee with alcohol was lovely
• The waitress was very friendly but the place slightly dead but I guess its not the kind of place you go to on a sunday afternoon
• I have to admit the cocktails were really nice
• They had a buffet included in the tickets which was good but nothing great to be honest
• I went for Daquiri Passion and it was really bad
• The mojito and Long Island Iced Tea was really good though
• As two people i think it was rather average
• It must also be known that given it was a Sunday evening
• We didn't try the cocktails that every is raving about

• Place was lit up well with some good music
• Cubana Smithfield is the new location of the popular Cuban restaurant in Waterloo
• The ambience is stereotypically Cuban which makes the place fun to explore
• While the drinks were cheap but not great
• Space was limited as tables were squashed together and we found ourselves almost on top of the adjacent tables
• Overall the venue was very loud and noisy
• At 11pm the restaurant turns into a club though this was fun and the music festive
• The transition time and wait while the band is setting up was rather frustrating
