La Petite Mort (Tollcross)

• Went to dinner spontaneously with Gillian McDonald and had a truly lovely evening at the newly launched La Petite Mort
• The cullen skink risotto was beautiful &
• The earl grey chocolate pudding was lovely too
• Provocatively named La Petite Mort is making noises on Edinburgh&rsquo
• S food scene with its creative and modest menu
• La Petite Mort is joined to traditional Tollcross pub
• The revamped restaurant offers an on trend menu with well executed
• Our starters were pretty damn good
• Were marvellously rich and dense with a perfectly thin and crunchy breadcrumb coating
• My only complaint was that they were a little too large for a starter
• The courgette ribbons were a welcoming
• Dining pal Charlotte was drawn to the smoked halloumi
• I felt it was too overpowering for the delicate scallops and was best enjoyed separately
• Mains I was very pleased with my sea bass and tempura aubergine
• The tempura was crispy and flavoured with delightfully delectable sesame
• What little oil there had been was absorbed by the fish and its incredible crispy skin
• It was a light dish that was extremely satisfying and an imaginative combination that really worked
• Charlotte was very happy with her choice of trio of pork
• The slab of loin was just the right kind of pink
• Her potato fondant was well done too
• The fondant came with both ice cream and custard &ndash
• The Earl Grey was sadly unnoticeable
• Blue and brie and was served in fantastic doorstop sized pieces
• Another absolute delight was the wonderful staff
• Each course was well matched and our cocktails with dessert &ndash
• She comes over with her basket of bread

• La Petite Mort is a hidden gem in full view located on Valleyfield Street
• S an elegant and charming oasis with a lovely casual interior and a truly beautiful painting on the stone exposed wall
• They only use the best of Scottish produce
