The Espy (Portobello)

• The service is painstakingly slow
• The high point of this meal was the fantastic view from the waterfront
• Yet as the day was bright but a little too breezy we decided to try and secure a space in the ample dining room
• Even though we were relatively late for lunch &ndash
• The pub was packed and we were only able to bag our spot on condition that we vacated within an hour and a half
• I reacquainted myself with The Espy&rsquo
• Except that The Espy compliments this with surfing paraphernalia and Australian iconography
• Until after some 30 minutes it became apparent that tables seated after ours were now being served their food
• S attention to question this there was a mysterious dearth of front of house staff in our section of the dining area
• With the meat and seafood flavours running in harmony with those of lemongrass
• The salad that accompanied these Asian inspired morsels was decently put together and well dressed
• The Mediterranean dips were also very tasty
• The mountain of flatbread that came with these was warm
• My slow roast pork and black pudding was succulent and tasty
• The bed of mash on which this lay was a wee bit of a let down
• As it could have done with fewer lumps and a bit more butter through it
• The burgers are still pretty good but not as they used to be
• There daily specials are usually the thing I go for most (when they haven't run out)
• If a customer such as myself who is now only visiting every so often can notice a huge turnover in staff surely regulars can't be too happy about it
• I Dono what it is with there on Going staffing situation now but it needs to be sorted and they need to be trained on customer service
• This establishment is one of the most popular in Portobello
• Also dog friendly so after a walk along the beach with the two pups
• Beer and summer are best friends but when you are with your friends on beach
• Breakfast and vegetarian part of menu is a must try
• Post surfing meal is a must when there is a best restaurant present right on the bay of sea
• I was competing with my friends and after beating them I won a meal at this restaurant
• T disappointing but main course (steak and pasta) and beer from the bar was just perfect
• Taste was very good and food was cooked by professionals
• We had gone for a family meal by Edinburgh's seaside and it was as usual a pleasure eating out
• We had a seat by the window with a nice view over Portobello Beach
• In the beginning the service seemed nice enough but then the staff became unfriendly and the service was extremely slow even though the restaurant wasn't full
• The Cesar Salad contained anchovies (which would be fine if they're small cut but they were whole and made the entire salad taste like fish) which wasn't described on the menu
• The burger I had was tasty and the homemade ginger beer was excellent
• Most of the staff's English is quite poor and that's coming from a non native speaker of English
• Azzajg000 and I were taken to the Espy as a birthday gift for a family brunch
• Service was very slow even though the restaurant area was barely occupied
• When they did arrive two of them were undrinkable
• The daiquiri was very sour and the ginger rum thing tasted as though it had a ginger root or two grated into it
• What made it worse was the fact that 4 drinks cost us £
• On a previous visit to The Espy (Portobello) one of the staff members barely comprehended what my order was and had no clue what orange juice was
• On this occasion I was also given a half pint and charged for a pint
• Their idea of salsa is some sweetcorn
• The espy great ambience great food and beer location is right next to the beach
• It's decorations are nice and the staff are friendly And helpful If I'm in this area again I would come here
• Your also allowed pets and a beach is right beside it
• The menu is fairly standard fair but what you got is good quality and you know you are going to get a good meal
