China Star (West End)

• The setting is homely and a little worn
• The welcome is friendly and warm
• Starting with salt and pepper beancurd then following with braised aubergine
• The accompanying noodles were much more to my liking
• China Star was hit and miss on this visit
• Their rating system is clear and easy to follow
• I have tried many a Chinese in Edinburgh and we always return to our local because nowhere is ever quite as good
• Often problematic when we eat together is the range of tastes and eating habits
• Ordering from China Star was no problem as they have an excellent range of delights
• This was a veritable feast and by the time eight of us had had our fill we were rolling around the flat
• His first recommendation was the spring rolls
• The next recommendation was for dumplings
• Then a few siu mai with pork and prawn filling
• Whatever was in the cha siu bao was a hit with both s
• The siu mai were also great
• They went down a treat with all the other scavengers
• Some of which was virtually inedible
• This beef dish was quite tasty
• The peppers were not overly cooked
• I would say that it was delicate just like a black bean sauce should be
• I do think there is only so much you can do with deep fried bananas but it is a winning combination
• My favourite was the mushroom dish
• This proved to be least popular with the masses
• I think if you were veggie it might not have been exciting enough a meal
• We also went with some &lsquo
• Thinking they would be another take on the spring roll was a huge mistake
• I thought it was brilliantly executed
• My usual choice is kung po chicken
• Prawn with fresh ginger and spring onion was the choice
• S left to say of the food is that the egg fried rice was solid
• The quality of much of the cooking was very high and the few niggles we had could probably be put down to individual taste
• The rest enjoyed their meals with relatively few complaints which can only be called miraculous
• Chicken fried rice did not want to go fancy with the basic thing so kept it simple
• Roast duck with spicy salt and chilli it was good in taste too
• Spicy stir fry pork belly fine chunks of pork cooked well in gravy was good as well
• Communication was kind of difficult as the staff were not very well versed with English but could place the order by pointing the item on the menu
• Good dry chicken with hint of salt and chilli
• Roast Duck with Mushrooms in Oyster Sauce
• Sliced boneless duck with mushroom in gravy
• The packaging was good and could eat directly from the take away containers
• Good place for Oriental food as the people who are serving are from their only and they know thier stuff pretty well
