Cafe Tartine (Leith)

• We had the meat and cheese sharing platter which was superb the homemade pate was sublime as were the french cheeses
• It would be perfect for a long lazy lunch with plenty sharing platters
• Leith has always had many great places for grabbing a lunch or going out for dinner but it always seemed to me that the cafe scene is a bit limited
• We visited on their second day since opening and tried something from almost every single page of the menu and we were not disappointed
• The coffee is lovely (and huge
• We finished with nice wine which made everything perfect
• Cafe Tartine provided me with both of these
• The decor was light and airy with wooden tables and a selection of comfy sofas
• I opted for a single sofa with plenty of pillows
• I was quickly given a menu and a glass of water with a slice of lemon
• I opted for a French soup to start with and a Madame Croque Monsieur to follow
• The food came quickly and was delivered by the chef himself which I found quite charming
• My only criticism was that the bread was slightly burnt but other than that I found it most enjoyable
• It consisted of two large slabs on of bread topped with melted cheese and a whole fired egg and was filled with ham
• Freshly made crepes are still a main focus of Cafe Tartine
• This is a great place to chill out with friends for any occasion
• Some reason I was expecting to step into a scene from 'Allo 'Allo and couldn't get the dodgy Franglais out my mind
• Thankfully Rene was not around but it does have a charming and homely feel all the same
• I ordered a Veggie Supreme and it was magical to watch it being made at the bar before my very eyes
• Great theatre and you could see it was all fresh as well as French
• A little niggle was that the charming waitress took my meal away before I was finished
• Even though when she asked I said I was still eating
• I just didn't fancy continuing with it after she put my companions lamb covered cutlery on my plate
• Pes but the dessert menu was more Crê
• I'd love to go back to Cafe Tartine in a few months to see if some of the niggles are ironed out
• Went there for breakfast and was really good
• ) I believe the reason I'm such foodie is down to my big sister for taking me for dinner when I was younger
• Make sure you are seated in the conservatory
• This cafe is dog friendly and it was nice to see quite a few four legged creatures behaving very well there
• Firstly the menu is consistently good whether you go for a crepe or something like pulled pork
• The specials are actually special often with innovative flavour combos
• I love how big it is so you don't usually struggle to find a table
• So me and other mummies went to lunch and it was really lovely
• I had a club sandwich and the best desert crepe ever
• All 3 courses were very tasty
• The house red wine was very pleasant
