52 Canoes Tiki Den (West End)

• Stashed away down some stairs at the West End is the 52 Canoes Tiki Den which specialises in rum
• It's a nice little bar which is very well hidden
• The drinks are a bit steep with a pint of the Jamaican lager Red Stripe
• There was a rum club on the day I visited and you get to see the process of how rum is made and you get to try a lot of different rums
• The best part of it was that it was completely free
• It has an an interesting interior filled with bits and pieces
• The bar staff are all extremely friendly
• I had joined my friends late and once I had sat down the barmaid who was passing by saw that I didn't have a drink and asked me if I wanted anything thus preventing me queing at the bar a nice touch
• The drinks are exactly what you'd expect to find in a tiki den fruity and rummy and served in large novelty drinking vessels
• Not all of them are sickly sweet
• Smoky Nachos with Spicy Bean Chilli
• I went here for cocktails one night with a group of friends and we had a very fun night
• The menu is extensive and alot of the cocktails are served in a very fun way
• I can't say I was blown away
• The portion size was good but what id expect fot the price
• We had intended to try the Beer Kitchen but as it was quite busy we decided to abandon
• This tiki den is in a basement on Melville Place and looks fun from the outside
• When we got inside we found ourselves a table and were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who offered to get us drinks and food menu
• We also knew that the food was at a pretty decent level
• The banter continued with the waiter and he kept this entertained all evening and certainly made the experience fun
• My friends rum drink was a little bitter but she still enjoyed it
• Then found out there was an open mic comedy night in the basement
