Purnell's (Colmore Business District)

• The 2nd biggest city in England has a total of 5 restaurants with a Michelin star
• S previously but with the restaurant receiving a make over I was very keen to revisit
• Delicate delights are presented with detail
• Then came the food which was not a disappointment
• We came away with something good to talk about
• From the moment the door was opened for us we felt special
• Coats taken and guided to a seat we were treated with care and plenty of smiles
• There seemed to be course after course each fascinating in the way they were served in all shapes and sizes of plates dishes platers etc
• All the time we were treated with smiles and lots of interesting information about the food and people that prepared it and served it to us
• The bread served with butter and salt was the best we have ever tasted
• Some thirteen years back I was a slender twenty year old with a food knowledge that amounted to knowing what should be ordered at Nando&rsquo
• Behind the stove was a young Glynn Purnell
• A talented chef with what I now understand to be considerable experience in some very serious kitchens
• A main of chicken with gamborini prawn would instantly convert me and slowly lead me on a path that had accumulated in four extra inches on my waistband
• Never the less an OK experience even with the final bill
• I am so disappointed with Purnell's (Colmore Business District)
• When I arrived 5 days after booking they presented me with the regular meat filled menu and told me they'd somehow be able to make each dish without meat
• Now this is a 5 course meal and we were really hungry
• The first course was a 3 tiny carrots arranged with a few shavings of beetroot and some green source
• I was really hungry so after a half hour wait and they brought out another 3 carrots I was getting a bit irritated
• I'd made us come here and my boyfriend and I (he was eating meat) were starving and these joke meals were either inedible (for him) or carrots for me
• They presented me with a single lettuce leaf at which point I literally burst out laughing
• My boyfriends food was revolting bowls of foam and snotty egg yolk that was always luke warm
• Maybe they don't have their best chef on as it was a Wednesday
• Who knows but Purnell's (Colmore Business District) is decades behind in their menu
• The restaurant was empty and the bill was over £
• Comfortable restaurant with interesting food and good service
• Birmingham is home to a handful of Michelin Starred restaurants
• Glynn Purnell is known for his slightly odd combinations of flavour
• A starter of cornflakes with smoked haddock doesn&rsquo
