Chung Ying Garden (Southside)

• While on our visit the restaurant was full of Chinese people as well
• The dim sum (small starters intended for sampling and sharing) are even the topic of manager James Wong&rsquo
• We ended up having deep fried prawn balls thai style which went brilliantly with sweet and sour sauce
• The dumplings I have to admit were a strange experience &ndash
• Both of us agreed was disappointing although the steamed green beans were a great touch
• While the yeung chow fried rice was a lovely and satisfying accompaniment
• So we were advised to wash it all down with bottles of Tsing Tao
• Spirits and soft drinks are of course also served
• The service is far from polished
• The waiters are friendly and prompt
• Their website claims to have the largest selection of dim sum in the UK I doubt this is 100% accurate as I've been to restaurants in Manchester's China Town that have a similar range
• I was in fact introduced to dim sum and Chung Ying Garden (Southside) by a work colleague who was originally from Hong Kong and he told me it was as authentic as I could hope for in sunny Birmingham
• 95% accurate was his opinion
• Had a decent meal with good service
• The presentation of the food was very basic as well
• I can't say with confidence but I think it was because of this meal that I had an upset stomach for a few days
• We ordered about 6 dishes among 6 people and their servings were just about enough
• Their chicken seemed like it was pre cooked and then just dumped into whatever sauce/rice/noodles/starter that we ordered
